Every kitchen has a story.
This one began with home.
Sometimes, the flavours we miss the most are the ones that bring us closest to where we came from.

Where It Began:
Tamil Nadu, and the taste of home.
In Tamil Nadu, food is never just food. It is how a home sounds and smells on a weekend: the hiss of a pressure cooker, the crackle of mustard seeds in hot oil, the long wait while a biryani sits sealed on dum.
I grew up around that patience. Meals were not rushed, and the best ones were worth waiting for. Those flavours became part of who I am, long before I thought about cooking them for anyone else.

A New Home in Sydney:
Far from home, the flavours stay with you.
Moving to Sydney brought a new life and a new home. But some things are hard to carry across an ocean, and the food I grew up with was one of them.
I found myself searching for familiar flavours and rarely finding them the way I remembered. When you are far from where you started, a single mouthful of the right food can bring you closer to home than words ever could. Food keeps us connected to our roots, and to each other.

From Missing It to Making It:
Small kitchen. Serious craft.
So I stopped searching and started cooking. Slowly, the way I had seen it done, without shortcuts.
Madras Canteen is the result: a small, founder-led kitchen in Parramatta, cooking a short weekly menu for one service every Sunday. It is my way of sharing the food I love with anyone who misses the same flavours, or anyone curious to taste them for the first time.

“This isn't a restaurant in the usual sense. It's my kitchen, opening its doors to you — one meal at a time.”
See you this weekend.
